The request should set forth the specific reasons why a hearing on this amendment would be appropriate. <FURINF> <HD SOURCE="HED">FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT:</HD> Jennifer Skidmore or Courtney Smith, Ph.D., (301) 427-8401. </FURINF> <SUPLINF> <HD SOURCE="HED">SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:</HD> The subject permit is requested under the authority of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, as amended (MMPA; 16 U.S.C. 1361 <E T="03">et seq.</E> ), the regulations governing the taking and importing of marine mammals (50 CFR part 216). The applicant is proposing to import up to five adult male bottlenose dolphins from the Attica Zoological Park in Athina, Greece, to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium for public display purposes. The subject dolphins are between the ages of 11 and 24 years and were all captive-born to individuals with multiple origins, including the southeastern United States, Cuba, the Russian Federation, and the Black Sea. The applicant has identified three of the animals as common bottlenose dolphins ( <E T="03">Tursiops truncatus</E> ) and two as Black Sea bottlenose dolphins ( <E T="03">Tursiops truncatus ponticus</E> ). The requested duration of the permit is 5 years. In compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (42 U.S.C. 4321 <E T="03">et seq.</E> ), an initial determination has been made that the activity proposed is categorically excluded from the requirement to prepare an environmental assessment or environmental impact statement.
